Orange County United Way, a local nonprofit, does so much for community! I first learned of the organization years ago when an old colleague of mine asked me to help volunteer at a local event. I remember bringing my daughter to help color a banner and loved the idea of teaching my kids to volunteer at a young age.
Now, I am so grateful to be writing this article and hopefully helping and sharing this information for other families that might benefit from this free service! If you don’t know anyone who qualifies, I urge you to share on your mom groups or with anyone that you can help! You can also scroll to the bottom of this article to find more ways to help give back within our community and a few things you can do with your kids too!

This new “virtual service” is an extension of the services they were providing in-person prior to COVID-19 through the nonprofit’s OC Free Tax Prep program.
Through the new virtual service, the same IRS-Certified Volunteer Tax Preparers that were preparing tax returns in-person are now able to help virtually.

Participate in OC Family to family campaign
Many local families are at risk of homelessness due to income reduction caused by the current health crisis. As part of United Way’s pandemic relief efforts for OC, they created the OC Family to Family where families can donate to help another family.
100% of donations go toward providing an at-risk family with a $500 emergency debit card to help pay for rent and food – even a $5 donation helps!
Your family can help an Orange County family at risk of homelessness due to income reduction caused by the current health crisis through our OC Family to Family Campaign.
For every $500 donated, one vulnerable family will receive a $500 emergency debit card to help with rent and food. By donating, your family will have a direct impact on keeping a family housed.
To give your family’s donation an even bigger impact, The Homeful Foundation is generously providing a dollar-for-dollar match during this campaign, up to $500,000! If you donate $5, your donation will become $10. If you donate $500, your donation will become $1,000 and so forth.
If you have children, the OC Family to Family Campaign provides an opportunity to teach them about the importance of helping others in times of need or can provide an opportunity to reinforce your family’s values of giving back.
So if your family would like to help another family,
