I’m feeling salty and sun-kissed! My recent trip to Mauna Kea Beach hotel was an absolute dream. It’s been a wild year for all of us during the covid-19 pandemic and we decided to pick up our little SO-CAL life and family and move to Hawaii! So this recent trip was actually a STAYCATION! I know, weird right.
During our trip, we celebrated our anniversary and also did a few days with the kids! It was amazing to experience both an adult vacay and kids vacay in one weekend.
I’ll admit I was hesitant to stay at a resort during the Covid-19 pandemic. It looked so glamorous… but what was it going to be like with the masks, new rules and social distancing?
Luckily, I spent plenty of time lounging around the pool sipping on cocktails and was pleasantly surprised!
It’s by far the best hotel I’ve ever stayed at in terms of customer service. The staff is unbelievable. Anything you need or want they were on top of it—they are one of the few resorts that opened up without any hiccups and showed us so much Aloha! Talk about top-notch service!

Some COVID stuff
Upon check in we were wearing masks. They have the appropriate questionnaire and temperature checks as well as giving you a wrist band to let others know that you met the new covid guidelines.
They did all of this with grace and ease and made it pretty effortless. We were still greeted with a beautiful Lei and mens kukui nut lei.
They expect you to wear your mask while you are walking around inside the resort. You can remove it at the pool, the beach and once you’re seated at any bar or restaurant. They also provide hand sanitizer everywhere and some other fun goodies to ya extra clean in your hotel room. It really wasn’t too bad at all!
A room with a view
We had presidential suite with a king bed and ocean view. It was phenomenal and also gave us the perfect view of the pool. The rooms have AC, a large and lovely lanai to sit on and an incredible bathroom with a separate shower and soaking bathtub.
I was also very impressed with the large walk in closet and dressing area.

We were absolutely spoiled with champagne on ice after a relaxing afternoon at the pool! It was such a pleasant surprise to find before getting ready for dinner!

Dinner at Manta
Manta is an open-air bay-view restaurant and you’ll want to make a reservation! The food is absolutely incredible as well as the service. The ambiance includes a large fire fit, ocean view, fresh salty air and romantic jazz music. After dinner if you walk to the Manta point you can see dozens of the majestic mantas swimming under the lights and it was the highlight of my entire stay! I just love watching these animals! If you bring the kids they will love this too and get a great view without getting wet!

fun with the kids
They had parrots throughout the grounds that my kids loved to talk to and visit. They also have an area for shuffleboard, pool tables and a few other fun games. All they ask is that you sanitize the game parts when you finish.
The kids also loved the fish ponds throughout the property and of course the mantas at night which I mentioned above!

During the day the pool is lovely overlooking the ocean, and the beach provides endless hours of fun! Mauna kea beach is well known to be one of the best beaches on the Island! You’ll find butter soft white sand and beautiful warm blue water. The beach is protected on both sides from high surf and wind, so while we get amazing boogie boarding waves you’ll find it a very mellow family friendly beach.
The resort also has plenty of surf boards, paddle boards and kayaks for rent on the beach.

We also enjoyed a lovely breakfast at Manta, with 100 percent kona coffee and the full buffet is now offered with table service to avoid crowds and lines. For me, I much prefer it this way!

Last but not least, don’t forget to try the homemade banana bread they leave for you in your room daily! It is simply superb!

[…] Mauna kea is well known as one of the best beaches on the island for a reason! You’ll find the softest sand here and the warmest water. You also usually have the perfect soft waves that are perfect for a fun afternoon yet nothing dangerous or too large. Keep in mind that this beach is attached to the Mauna Kea Resort so the public beach parking is extremely limited. I believe it only has 40 spots open to the public. If you want a spot make sure you arrive by 8:30 am (even during the week). […]
