Our recent breakfast at Papa Kona’s was fantastic. From the beautiful ocean view to amazing service they certainly created a very enjoyable and delicious breakfast spot! And if you have kids that love rainbows, then this keiki menu will make for the perfect vacation morning!

Papa Kona’s is one of the few restaurants that is taking reservations, and since this is a popular breakfast spot you might want to call ahead! However, if you do decide to walk in you can wait in a beautiful grassy area right on the ocean!
The hostess told us, she had no idea how long the wait would be and would not give us any inkling as to whether it was 2 hours or 10 minutes. Since we live here in Kona, I’m used to that response and said no worries we will wait! In the end, it was only about 20 minutes until we had an oceanfront table.
The menu
Sip on delicious 100 percent local Kona coffee, or espresso and if you have the chance order the rainbow french toast! We had the pleasure of meeting the chef and he whispered to my 7 year old that his secret ingredient is real vanilla ice cream! She was more than thrilled when it came out filled with rainbows and she has officially named this the rainbow unicorn french toast!

We all enjoyed other items off the daily breakfast menu prepared to order with fresh local ingredients that are sure to please both tourists and locals alike.
They also had colored pencils and coloring pages for the kids while we waited for our food which is always a huge bonus! I found a lot of places in Hawaii stopped doing this and maybe because crayons melt or maybe we can blame the pandemic. In either event, we were thrilled to see the colored pencils back out!

Happy hour & Dinner
If you enjoyed breakfast we know you’ll want to come back here for happy hour! Papa Konas offers live music daily starting at 5:00 pm and has a really cool reggae Hawaiian vibe that gives you all the happy feels! The recently remodeled bar wraps around upstairs surrounding you with sweeping ocean views, salty air, and great beats!
The cocktail menu offers everything from classic tiki cocktails to modern masterpieces and of course if you’re like me a simple chilled glass of sauvignon blanc will do! Happy hour is from 3:00-5:00pm daily.
Getting here
Papa Konas is located at 75-5770 Ali’i Drive, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, 96740. There is a parking structure just next to the restaurant and you’ll have to pay for parking using the pay machine in the parking lot. They take all major credit cards and unfortunately the restaurant does not validate so you’ll have to pay before you head in!
